Help Make Us a Healthier Community
Safely dispose of your unused and expired medications.
These medicines include prescription and over-the-counter pills, creams, liquids and patches.
Proper disposal of your medications saves lives and protects our drinking water.
Safe medicine disposal prevents:
- Health problems caused by mistakenly taking the wrong dose, expired medicine or wrong medication
- Accidental poisoning of children & pets
- Drug abuse and misuse by teenagers & adults
- Antibiotic resistance in humans
- Harm to wildlife
- Contamination of our drinking water
Please do not flush medications down the toilet, sink, or put them in the garbage.
Medicines thrown in the garbage, down the sink or flushed down the toilet eventually go into our water supply. These contaminants cannot be removed from our drinking water and can cause health problems for both humans and wildlife. Common drugs are already found in more than 90% of U.S. drinking water supplies.
It's easy and FREE to safely dispose of your medicines.
For prescription medicines, cross out your name and other personal information using a permanent black marker. You have two disposal choices:
1. Request a FREE mail-back envelope from MED-Project by filling out the form on this web page https://med-project.org/locations/santa-clara/mail-back-services
2. Please drop off your medications at a kiosk near you. Kiosks are located at pharmacies, police or fire stations, libraries, community centers and hospitals. To find a kiosk near you, please use this link https://med-project.org/locations/santa-clara/find-a-location
