Windy Hill Wildflower Hike

Windy Hill Preserve is named for its breezy grass-covered hilltop and protects more than 1400 acres of grassland ridges and forests of redwood, fir and oak. In the Spring months, this preserve is known for its variety of wildflowers. We began our one-way downhill hike at the top of Skyline Ridge (Anniversary picnic area) and descended into shady woodlands where we saw views of the bay. We saw and identified filarees, fiddlenecks, poppies, scarlet pimpernels, manroot, tons of white, pink and magenta trillium, western hearts ease, flowering miners lettuce, tidy tips, Fremont star Lilly, blue dips, Western hounds tongue, baby blue eyes, buttercups, Mule’s ear and Crimson columbine. This special program was hosted in partnership with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.
