Earthquake Excursion

Today we visited the 274-acre Los Trancos Preserve located in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This preserve is an ideal spot to learn about earthquake geology because the San Andreas Fault, one of the world's longest and most active faults, splits the preserve. As we walked through the forest, we learned about earthquakes, saw Milkmaids, Hounds’ tongue and magenta Trillium petals peaking out of their sepal as well as different fungi and two waterfalls! We ended the day with a social picnic lunch. This special program was hosted in partnership with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.
