Fun in San Mateo
This museum has animal exhibits (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates), science exhibits and a 1.3 acre native plant garden. There are volunteer opportunities in many areas of the Museum, including: wildlife habitat docents, instructional assistants, aviary aides, interpretative guides, wildlife show assistants, and program/event assistants. Volunteers receive many special privileges including educational opportunities, social events with other volunteers, a quarterly newsletter specifically for volunteers and discounted membership.

Housed in the old San Mateo County Courthouse, the History Museum hosts exhibits detailing the history and development of San Mateo county. Volunteering opportunities include: (1) gallery monitors who help visitors enjoy the exhibits by highlighting artifacts and activities; (2) museum docents for leading the tours of the exhibits and related hands-on activities ;(3) Sanchez adobe docents; (4) Assist with childrens’ crafts; (5) Build display cases or paint walls for a new exhibit. There are other opportunities available.
