Peninsula Family Service

Peninsula Family Service is seeking volunteers for its Senior Peer Counseling Program. Senior Peer Counselors serve older adults in San Mateo County who are experiencing depression, fear, anxiety, loss of a loved one, loneliness, changes in health or isolation.

Requirements

Counselors take part in a free nine-week training program for two mornings per week, with a licensed professional to learn counseling and listening skills, and about community resources. Counselors are asked to make a one year commitment to the program.  Must be an adult age 50 or older.

Schedule

Counselors meet with their client once per week for one hour at a time and location that is mutually agreeable. They must also attend a bi-weekly group supervision meeting with a licensed professional.
