ITINERARY

Cheese Tasting

First we visit the Nicasio Creamery in Nicasio, owned by the Lafranchi family. The dairy farm was started in 1919 by grandfather, Fredolino Lafranchi who immigrated to America from Maggia, Switzerland, with the dream to one day own and operate his own dairy. Later on, his grandchildren decided to start making cheese under the mentorship of Swiss Master Cheesemaker, Maurizio Lorenzetti who imparted his expertise in the Swiss art of cheese making and a magical touch to these California cheeses.
We will split into two groups to learn about the history of their eco-friendly dairy and organic cheese-making process and taste and purchase some of their artisanal cheeses that have won national awards. Nicasio's Award-Winning Cheeses

Lunch

After the tasting, we head to the beach for a relaxing and outdoor lunch. There will be a choice of sandwiches or salad.

Point Reyes Tule Elk Hike

Next, we drive to Point Reyes National Seashore for a moderate, two-hour, out-and-back hike on an open trail through the Tule Elk Reserve. You have a choice of a two-mile (1 mile per hour pace) or 3.5-mile (~ 2 mile per hour pace) roundtrip hike, both of which will pass Windy Gap at the head of White Gulch, a prime location for viewing elk gathered at a perennial spring. We will see spectacular views of the high cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean on one side of the trail and Tomales Bay on the other. There are now more than 3,000 elk inhabiting this preserve. Looking beyond White Gulch, we have a view of Hog Island in Tomales Bay. Along the way, we learn about the historic Pierce Ranch and the Tule Elk Reserve. Point Reyes National Seashore Trail Views
